Aurora Borealis Expected Over North America This Weekend

Chance for Historic Display in Oregon

A strong geomagnetic storm headed towards Earth this weekend may bring the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, to the skies of many parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

Oregonians may be in for a particularly special treat, with the potential for a historic aurora display.

When and Where to See the Lights

The aurora is expected to be visible late tonight and tomorrow night, peaking around midnight. The best viewing locations will be in areas with dark skies, away from city lights.

In Oregon, the Oregon Coast Trail and the Cascade Range offer excellent vantage points.
