What is the European Union?

The European Union (EU) is a supranational political and economic union of 27 member states that are located primarily in Europe. The EU operates through a system of supranational institutions and intergovernmental cooperation, and its main institutions are the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Council, the Court of Justice of the European Union, and the European Central Bank.

Schengen Area

Since 1985, the Schengen area allows people and businesses to travel and operate without border checks. It began in June 1985 with 5 countries and has since expanded to 27 member states.
