Dallas Mavericks Sign Luka Dončić to 5-Year, $207 Million Contract Extension

Luka Dončić, the Slovenian superstar who led the Dallas Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals in 2021, has signed a 5-year, $207 million contract extension with the team. The deal, which was expected, will keep Dončić in Dallas through the 2026-27 season.
The contract extension is the largest in Mavericks franchise history, surpassing the $155 million extension signed by Dirk Nowitzki in 2014. It also makes Dončić one of the highest-paid players in the NBA.
Dončić, 22, is a two-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA First Team in 2021. He averaged 27.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game last season. He is widely considered to be one of the best young players in the NBA.
The Mavericks are expected to compete for a championship with Dončić leading the way. The team added several key pieces in the offseason, including Reggie Bullock, Frank Ntilikina, and Sterling Brown. Dallas will begin the regular season on October 20th against the Memphis Grizzlies.
